Anti-Doping Rule Violations
An Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) is conduct by an athlete or other person that contravenes the World Anti-Doping Code. Per Article 2 of the Code, the following constitute violations:
Types of Violations
- Presence of a prohibited substance or its metabolites in an athlete's sample
- Use or attempted use of a prohibited substance or method
- Evading, refusing or failing to submit to sample collection
- Whereabouts failures — 3 missed tests / filing failures within 12 months
- Tampering or attempted tampering with any part of doping control
- Possession of a prohibited substance or method
- Trafficking or attempted trafficking
- Administration to an athlete or attempted administration
- Complicity — assisting, encouraging, aiding, abetting
- Prohibited association with sanctioned support personnel
- Acts to discourage or retaliate against reporting to authorities

An athlete is personally responsible for any prohibited substance found in their body — regardless of intent.
